Jon Strimling

Chief Executive Officer/Co-founder

Jonathan Strimling has 20 years of experience as an executive and entrepreneur, largely focused on the commercialization of innovative products and services, with a focus in renewable energy.

Mr. Strimling’s experience spans a variety of industries, and often lies at the intersection of new technology and market opportunities. He previously spun WoodPellets.com out of US Dynamics, where he grew the renewable heating fuel business to dominate online sales of pellet fuel. His background includes driving innovations in manufacturability at GE Aircraft Engines, commercializing new renewable energy and water systems at DEKA Research & Development, and a variety of senior operating roles with American Industrial Partners.

Mr. Strimling’s education includes Masters Degrees in Engineering and Management from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, and an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. Mr. Strimling is a graduate of General Electric’s Engineering Development Program, and has served on the boards of American Biomass Corporation, the Biomass Thermal Energy Council, The Alliance for Green Heat, and was a governor’s appointee to New Hampshire’s Economic Strategy Commission.

Curt Fischer

Chief Operating Officer

Curt Fischer is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience in operations, engineering and supply chain management across various industries including food, chemical, electronics, life sciences and renewable energy. This diverse perspective has contributed significantly to the successful introduction of new products for early stage companies as well as Fortune 500s.  Among other roles, Mr. Fischer led a $500M supply chain operation for Teradyne, where he led a team of ten professionals who were responsible for ensuring the supply availability complex electronic systems comprised of up to a million components. In addition, he has deep operational experience in every aspect of manufacturing, from his early days in food production at Frito Lay to chemical processing at Enthone Specialty Chemicals to laying the groundwork for multiple new production facilities.

Mr. Fischer’s educational background includes an MBA from Sacred Heart University where he was honored with the Academic Excellence Award in International Business. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University.

Bill Hulstrunk

Director of Technical Services and Product Quality

Mr. Hulstrunk is a well-known and well-respected expert in cellulose insulation. He served as Technical Manager for National Fiber prior to joining UltraCell, and served on the Board of Directors of the Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers Association from 2013 through 2015. Hulstrunk has more than 20 years of experience in building science, weatherization, and energy conservation, and is a popular speaker and trainer in the cellulose insulation installer community. He brings deep knowledge and skills relating to the specification and installation of cellulose insulation for new construction and retrofits, for advanced building diagnostics, for thermography, for blower door and pressure differential techniques, for inspections, testing, and compliance, and for sizing and cost-benefit analysis.

Robert Hupper

Director of Plant Operations/Co-founder/Co-inventor of UltraCell

Robert Hupper is a process engineering expert, responsible for developing equipment requirements and optimizing our production process. He has extensive experience in the pulp and paper industry. He previously served as a Process Manager for Verso Paper Company where he was responsible for production operations, equipment maintenance and employee training. Previously, he worked as a Finished Products Supervisor and as a Process Manager in various areas of paper operations. He has successfully implemented supply chain upgrades and was involved in the major rebuild of a forms/bond paper machine into a world class on-line super calendared machine. While on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, he obtained an Associate’s Degree in Industrial Security.

Steeve Wintle

Vice President, Finance

Steeve is responsible for the Company’s financial strategy and management. He has 20 years of accounting and finance experience, primarily in energy and high tech companies, most recently serving as the CFO of International WoodFuels, a renewable energy development company. Steeve has established a strong track record of accounting work, financial management, and operations. Mr. Wintle graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BA and MBA in Business Administration.

Vice President and Principal Investigator/Co-founder

Daniel H. Thompson, co-founder of UltraCell Insulation, brings a broad background in production design and process development. He was the Director of Structural Design at the Bath Iron Works, and co-founded Advanced Management Catalyst, Inc., a management consulting company serving startups, Fortune 100 corporations, and government agencies. His experience includes strategic work for the DoD, DoE, and NASA as well as for commercial and community organizations. He is focused on developing the Company’s technology and manufacturing processes.

Mr. Thompson’s education includes a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute and Graduate work at the University of Chicago in Social Philosophy.

Mark Bernfeld is an experienced entrepreneur and investor representing the Clean Energy Venture Group. CEVG provides capital and management expertise to a select group of early clean energy companies that have the potential to mitigate climate change and to achieve attractive financial returns. The CEVG team is comprised of seasoned operating executives and investors with strong capabilities in the energy and environmental sectors.

Mr. Bernfeld previously founded Tamarack Technologies in 1993 with the vision of meeting our growing need to conserve energy and improve air quality in our homes. He remains owner and Board Chairman, where he continues to advocate for Tamarack’s mission to promote the reemergence of home cooling using outdoor air, and to make accessible to homeowners sensible solutions to the problem of unhealthy indoor air. As a result, Tamarack is widely recognized for quality and innovation in providing ventilation  solutions for the air we live in.

Director (Representing the Patient Capital Collaborative, an Investors’ Circle affiliate)

Mr. Lance is a seasoned investor who has been responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in investments and represents the Patient Capital Collaborative (an Investors’ Circle affiliate) on UltraCell Insulation’s board. Mr. Lance began his career with the Bank of Boston in its High Technology Division and served with Pacific Life Insurance Company where he made investments in debt and equity as well as in investment limited partnerships (LBO, Mezzanine and Venture Funds).

In 1990 Mr. Lance co-founded the private equity organization now known as Windjammer Capital Investors (with over $2 billion under management). At Windjammer alone, Mr. Lance was directly involved in the making of 24 investments representing approximately $300 million, which over time have produced a weighted average cash-on-cash internal rate of return in excess of 30%. Mr. Lance has served previously on various boards of directors, three times as Chairman, and has advised numerous companies in various facets of their financing and operations.

Mr. Brandstein brings more than 30 years of experience in technology startup companies. His background includes executive level operations and business development at several technology startups and small companies. Prior to joining UltraCell, Mr. Brandstein was the Chief Operating Officer of a mid-sized communications technology manufacturing company serving customer in over 80 countries worldwide. He has also served as Vice President of Sales, Marketing and/or Business Development for several technology startups serving telecommunications, healthcare, energy, government, electronic security, enterprise, and other industries. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and an MBA from the University of Southern California.

Technical and Science Adviser/Co-inventor of UltraCell

As Director of the Univ of Maine, Process Development Center, Mr. Bilodeau has a track record of managing collaborative projects to develop, validate, and commercialize innovative forestry related products and processes. Mr. Bilodeau is a co-investor of UltraCell’s patented process. Mr. Bilodeau’s prior experience includes work at Sappi Fine Papers, SD Warren Co, and West End Technology. He is an active member of the Paper Industry Management Association and the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry. Mr. Bilodeau holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maine.

Daniel Goldman

Senior Adviser on Finance

Daniel Goldman has over 25 years of energy industry experience in strategy, corporate and project finance, and project development, as well as private equity/asset investment and early-stage venture investing. Over the course of his career, Mr. Goldman’s experience has spanned the upstream, mid-stream and downstream oil, gas, coal and power generation sectors and since 2000 has included an extensive focus on clean energy asset development and finance, energy efficiency technology development, as well as venture and project investments, both domestically and internationally. In addition to co-founding CEVG, since 2006, he has held positions at GreatPoint Energy, including most recently as its President and Chief Financial Officer. GreatPoint Energy is a clean energy gasification company which Mr. Goldman helped to raise over $280 million from investors such as Kleiner Perkins, Khosla Ventures, Citi, Dow Chemical and China Wanxiang.

Andrea Yodsampa, PhD

Senior Adviser, Government and Policy

Dr. Yodsampa brings deep expertise in government affairs and policy, with special focus on climate change, energy policy, market-based policy solutions, and clean energy innovation. She also brings extensive experience in complex negotiation processes, public-private partnerships, civil-military relations, strategic planning, and impact evaluation. She has published and lectured widely on negotiation and inter-organizational cooperation.

Dr. Yodsampa has a BA in history from Dartmouth College, an MPP from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, and a PhD from Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.

Mr. Gagnon was the owner of Ace Insulation, a leading insulation installation company in Maine and is co-inventor of UltraCell’s original enabling technology. He is well regarded in the installer community in Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire and brings decades of experience in both the US and Canadian insulation market.
